The line for coffee was longer than I expected which made me nervous. She said ten minutes and I didn’t note the time so it’s no good looking at my watch. I just have to wait while all these old ladies ahead of me in the line order what they want.

Why do people take so long when they’re ahead of you in the queue? It’s like they’re on some power trip to deliberately take as long as possible and annoy people waiting behind them. How long does it take to check a menu and order what you want? They even have time while they’re waiting in line to choose. It can’t be that hard. I just know that when I get there I’m going to be so fast.

It’s the coffee shop near the escalators. I can watch people going up and down while I wait. I think I’ve been here before, I had duck salad once and it was really interesting. It looked like I wanted to eat it. But it was expensive, this café is expensive. I didn’t care because I had lots of money then. Now, not so much. But I think there’s enough for a coffee.

Such a long queue I can’t even see the biscuits. They’re tantalising there, so people see them before they reach the cash register but they’re wasted on me because I can’t really see them. Some are round and some are long and they have nuts on them but that’s all I can really see. There, a lady’s finished and gone off to find her table. I hope they do take away. Have to wait in the queue to find out.

I’m one step closer and there’s still five women ahead of me. I wish I knew how long it was taking. The biscuits aren’t close enough yet. My feet can’t stand still, I’m sure I’m going to be late.  I wonder if they still have duck salad, though the most I can have is a biscuit. Another lady gone and I can at least see the biscuits now. I think I’ll have a long one.

She was fast. The queue must be moving. I’m almost there. “Just a coffee and a biscuit, thanks. Do you do take away?”

“Yes sure, you can wait over there.”

The coffees are cued to and the coffeemaker does them when he gets to them. There’s one coffee machine and one coffeemaker. No good looking at my watch. Just accept I’ll be late.
